Sampson is charged with wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 . The charge relates to an incident in which a 16 year old boy , who cannot be named , was struck over the head with a police baton by a serving member of South Yorkshire Police , outside a football match in Barnsley , on 8th February 2020 .
