Apprentice Stonemason NIALL SMEE (26 from Chorlton) carefully removes delaminated and crumbling stonework before shaping it and carving patterns in to the newly exposed stonework so as to match with the patterns running along surrounding blocks . A £330 Million refurbishment of Manchester Town Hall is underway . The Victorian neo-gothic monument , designed by Alfred Waterhouse , is being modernised to make it more accessible whilst extensive repairs and restorations are being made to the infrastructure and its contents , in line with the edifice's Grade 1 listed status .
